Malaysia

Malaysia has a coastline of 4,675 km, and an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of about 334,671 km 2 . In 2018, 19 longline vessels operated in the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) Area of Competence. They caught about 2 848 t of tuna and tuna-like species. The total catch was dominated by albacore tuna (63%), followed by yellowfin tuna (16%) and bigeye tuna (8%). In addition, other tuna species, such as kawakawa tuna (10,686 t), longtail tuna (3,636 t), and frigate tuna (385 t), were caught by purse seiners and to a lesser degree by drift/gill net and trawlers.
