Oman

Oman has a coastline of about 3,165 km, extending on three different water bodies Arabian Sea, Sea of Oman and the Arabian Gulf. Oman has an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of about 533,180 square km . The Omani national fleet consists of artisanal, coastal and industrial fleets. In 2017, nearly 24 000 artisanal vessels were active in the in-shore waters, 144 vessels operated in the coastal fishery and one longline vessel operated in the Oman EEZ and the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission Area of Competence. The total catch of tuna and tuna-like species, including pelagic sharks, was 57,426 t in 2017. The total catches were dominated by longtail tuna, yellowfin tuna and kawakawa tuna, noting that an investigation and review of landing data for all tuna species from 2008 to 2017 was ongoing.
